Blowout!

Virtually a month after the Mets blew out the Nationals on the road, 13-4, they matched that score tonight, again on the road, but this time against the second-place Phillies, who were gaining ground on the Mets, thanks to a 9-game winning streak. Well, the streak's over, the Mets (22-11) again lead the Phillies (18-15) by 4 games and tomorrow night they'll try to take the series that started with a tough 5-4 loss on Tuesday.

The Phillies' sloppy defense (they made 4 errors) opened the floodgates, and the Mets kept pouring it on, pounding out 17 hits. Jose Reyes had the Mets' only HR (his 2nd), which capped off a 6-run 3rd inning rally and extended the lopsided score to 10-0. Tom Glavine (5-2) allowed only 4 hits over 7 innings to gain his 280th career victory; at the plate, he had two hits, including a 2-RBI double, a walk, a sacrifice bunt and scored 2 runs. Glavine's ERA is 2.19 and he's batting .500!

The Mets' other offensive stars were Paul Lo Duca (double and 3 RBI) and Carlos Beltran (two doubles and 2 RBI).

Next game: Thursday, May 11 vs. the Phillies at Citizens Band Park, 7:05 pm start on SNY & WFAN, Steve Trachsel (2-2, 4.96) vs. Gavin Floyd (3-2, 6.16)

* Like the Mets, the Yankees (19-12) evened their series, beating the Red Sox (20-13) 7-3 at Yankee Stadium behind Mike Messina (6-1). Jason Giambi (his 12th), Alex Rodriguez (7th) and Jorge Posada (4th) all hit HRs, two off of Curt Schilling (5-2). It'll be Shawn Chacon (4-1, 3.94) vs. Tim Wakefield (1-4, 3.97) in tomorrow night's rubber match, 7:05 pm start on YES, ESPN & WCBS Radio. The winner will assume first place in the AL East.

Comments:
Yeah Tommy G.!
That's more runs than they've scored for him in his first two years combined! I just saw the replay of the David Wright barehanded play that I missed last night-nasty, and I so far have no problems with Delgado's defense, which has been referred to as weak. Hopefully Trachsel isn't Trashel
tonight-
Congrats on the 100th post!
