Mets even series

Paul Lo Duca's 9th-inning HR (his 3rd) powered the Mets to a 9-8 victory last night over the Brewers in Milwaukee. The Mets blew an 8-4 lead when Duaner Sanchez gave up 2 HRs in the 8th and then was thrown out of the game (along with Willie Randolph) for hitting a batter. Billy Wagner notched his 8th save.

Jeremi Gonzalez pitched 5 innings in his first start as a Met. Carlos Beltran's 3-run HR in the 3rd provided him with a lead that Sanchez relinquished. In a rare start, LF Jose Valentine also HR-ed (his first as a Met) and drove in 4 runs.

The Mets (23-12) still lead the Phillies (20-15), who shut out the Reds, by 3 games.

Next game: Sunday, May 14 vs. the Brewers (18-19) at Miller Park, 2:05 pm start on Ch. 11 & WFAN, Pedro Martinez (5-0, 2.89) vs. Doug Davis (2-2, 5.32)
